The Civic Party

Activate participation
The Civic Party holds ideas initiated by the Progressives in the early 1900’s, deepened by the Greens of the past two decades, and advocates active citizen participation made most apparent with the public displays of the last five years beginning most stridently by ordinary people asking for more diverse voices at the 1999 WTO (World Trade Organization) conference in Seattle. However, the violent nature displayed by a few participants during the Seattle event was completely unwarranted and defeats the sincere and earnest efforts by the majority of people to express an opinion in a public forum.
Civic modernism
Citizen discussion and participation is the foundation of a society hoping to be democratic. The primary tenet of the Civic Party is the role and importance of citizen or civic participation in our democratic/market-capitalist nation. The world is moving towards the next age, the age of civic localism or civic modernism.
Dignity and hope
The nation lean towards modernism: individual expression, democratic governance, capitalistic production of goods and services, and free speech (hopefully.) In the past thirty years we’ve moved through conceptualism, post-modernism, post-industrial notions, but culture will continue to be modern as suggested by the United States Constitution written in the 1700s. Often, however, the focus is on the success of industry/commerce at all cost regardless of individual dignity/health, the freedom to express a dissenting voice and the natural environment. In the next era of civic modernism, nurture egalitarian qualities of the previous modernism while promoting more humanistic features, government disclosure and heightened civic participation.
Present options
The Civic Party will organize, design and present citizen options through environmental, economic, social and artistic concepts for the next age of civic modernism.
